About The Book

First, The Good

Founder and CEO of the Purposeful Culture Group
President of WorqIQ

As authors, our servant purpose is to take readers beyond a simple understanding of the elements that lead to an effective work culture. This book is designed to present proven and actionable strategies that – when implemented in collaboration with your work teams – create a work culture that ensures good comes first. Good for employees, customers, leaders and all stakeholders.

In other words, rather than help you know how to do it…

The goal is to help you to do it.

Section I

Purpose and Principles

In our first five chapters, we show why too many company cultures suck and introduce the Good Comes First model. We then provide research to support the model, outline the vital role senior leaders play as change champions, and discuss why leaders must model and coach their Good Comes First culture daily.

Section II

Practical, Tactical Guidance

The middle six chapters provide step-by-step directions that enable you to craft an uncompromising Good Comes First company culture. Here, you’ll learn the importance of your company’s servant purpose, declare your values and define the behaviors that support those values, and state your strategies and goals.

Section III

Actionable Inspiration

In our final three chapters, we describe the leadership qualities required to drive and sustain an organizational culture change. We also discuss how hiring and team building must be grounded by your desired culture. Finally, because change is hard, we talk about how to reboot your current culture.

"As a fellow business leader, I encourage you to take in every word Chris and Mark have written here in Good Comes First. More importantly, I challenge you to take on the role of change champion as you begin redefining your company culture and make the demonstration of respect as important as achieving results.”
